Welcome to the Bristol University Music Society website. On this site you will find all the latest information about our concert and events series, and also information on all of our own ensembles, how to get involved in one of our groups, or get in touch with the committee.
BUMS is one of the biggest and most active Union societies, running a variety of orchestras and other ensembles (both auditioned and non-auditioned), which each rehearse weekly and perform several concerts during the year (including on tours, with the main tour this year heading to Berlin).
Members can participate in any of the ensembles (audition permitting), and are also provided with Chamber Music opportunities, access to quality practice rooms in the Union building, and free or discounted entry to many concerts. The society also has a varied social calendar, the highlight of which is the annual Performing Arts Ball.

There may be only two weeks left of the term but there are plenty of concerts still happening. Tomorrow (Wed 7th) at 1.15pm in the Victoria Rooms is the Chamber Choir Concert. On Saturday the Chamber Orchestra will be performing at 7.30pm in the Victoria Rooms and then to get in you in the christmas spirit come along to the Chamber Choir Nine Lessons and Carols at All Saints Church at 7.30pm on Monday 12th Dec. These concerts are not to be missed, all involved have been working so hard all term so come and show your support and enjoy some beautiful music!!

At 2pm on Wednesday 26thof October, BUMS will be holding it’s first ever Chamber Music Workshop! It’s going to be a great afternoon, so if you’re looking to form a smaller ensemble, such as a trio, quartet or quintet, please come along! The afternoon will give you the chance to find other players interested in forming a group, music will be available for you to take away to a practice room then and there, and there will also be people on hand to help you with rehearsing. Wednesday 1st June saw the Chamber Music ensembles of BUMS put on their final concert of the year in St. Paul's.
Considering the time of year, with exams stressing all students out, the standard of the concert was impressive. The concert included Flute Choir, the Brass Ensembles' Trumpets and of course - CAKE!
A big thanks to those that took part, looking forward to more Chamber Music next year - keep the 24th of November free in your diaries!

Dress code: black tie, with a twist... as colourful and glam as you can possibly go; and if you fancy slipping into a sari, shalwar kameez or your churidars, go for it! On Saturday the 6th November BUMS holds the first Scratch Concert of the year, featuring two great works (as usual) rehearsed and performed in just one day!! This time Daniel Barnes is conducting Franz Joseph Haydn: Missa Sancti Nicolai and his less-famous (but just as talented younger) brother Michael's Requiem in C Minor.
The concert starts at 19:30 at St. Paul's Church. Admission is free, with a retiring collection.

As we get in up and running there might be a couple of errors around and about, but we're ironing these out and if you keep checking back you will see it just get better and better.

We are the Music Society and we are all about the music! Whether you want to join an orchestra or choir or you might want to play at an Open Mic. night, this can all be done with BUMS.

Come along and listen to two of the Universities finest choral ensembles during your lunch break - for free! The Bristol University Chamber Choir and Bristol University Madrigal Ensemble will be performing at 1.15, in the Victoria Rooms. The concert will include works by Terry Schelnker and Mendelssohn's Richte Mich Gott.
The Bristol University Chamber Orchestra and Bristol University Symphony Orchestra are both performing in this concert, starting at 7.30 in the Victoria Rooms.
The first half will be the BUMS Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Aaron Taylor and led by Georgie Dale, performing Beethoven, Symphony No.1, Op.21.
In the second half the BUSO, conducted by John Pickard, will perform Havergal Brian: Tone Poem - In Memoriam and John McCabe: Fire at Durilgai
Tickets: Balcony £15/ conc £10; stalls £10/ conc £7.
